A Day in My Life Using Digital Media

Digital media significantly impacts each aspect of my life on a daily basis starting with the morning routine and finishing at bedtime. No matter if it is a question of communicating via different apps or websites, working on assignments, listening to music, controlling finances or contacting my friends and relatives – digital media became an inseparable part of life.
The most common applications and websites that I use every day are: Instagram, YouTube, Gmail, Spotify, Google Chrome and banking applications. The first thing I do in the morning is opening Instagram to contact my friends, relatives and organizations I follow as well as to track current trends, local events and content creators. YouTube also belongs to those apps where I usually spend a lot of time – it serves as an entertainment, educational channel and a source for learning new skills. As a student, it is extremely useful since there are videos on YouTube on any topic imaginable.
During the day, Gmail is one of the most significant applications because it helps me to be aware of what happens regarding school assignments, job or my private matters. Google Chrome is my main browser where I perform my researches, take online courses and look for any necessary information. Moreover, Spotify is another application that I use daily, particularly when I study, drive or do sport. Listening to music helps me to focus during my hectic day.
The influence of digital media is both positive and negative depending on the way I use it. First of all, it is easier than ever before to communicate using digital media. No matter where I am located – my classmates, colleagues and relatives are always accessible. Secondly, it is possible to get all the necessary information and educational sources without any additional efforts. Besides, applications like online bank and payment system allow to save my time and control my finances easily.
Still, there are some drawbacks of using digital media as well. For example, the problem is in the distraction of social media applications which may absorb more time than expected. Sometimes, the problem is in the huge amount of content on the Internet that sometimes becomes too many. The constant notifications and ads prevent me to concentrate on important things. That is why, I try to set boundaries for myself when I use certain applications.
I think the main characteristic feature of digital media in the sphere of marketing nowadays is the high level of personalization. In other words, companies use the data collected from people to show the advertisements which relate to their interests, recent searches and previous purchases. For instance, if I search the golf equipment, travel destinations or technical goods, I see the relevant advertisements soon after on social networks or websites.
Another tendency in digital media is the increasing role of short form video content in the field of marketing. Platforms such as Instagram Reels, TikTok or YouTube Shorts change the rules of advertising business. Nowadays consumers prefer quick and entertaining videos to long advertisements and that is why businesses need to produce the authentic videos to get more engagement.
